Survivor – my parents story

Over the course of the last year our kids have continued to be involved in dance. Even with all the doctors visits, chemo, being sick…dang…i’m gonna cry typing about it…they rarely missed a class. And even though we couldn’t be involved at the same level we were normally, Tamika never missed a performance. We went to every competition with a can of lysol (or 2) and would do our best to sterilize the hotel room, avoid sick kids, take our fresh fruit and blender, and only venture out of the hotel room when it was time for our kids to perform. It was difficult emotionally and draining physically, but we survived.

This year our kids are performing more than ever before and we are so excited that we are able to be involved again. We spent most of our time this year hanging out with parents and watching the competition from just a few feet away. You may have seen a version of this dance before as my kids surprised us with it at the Christmas Recital last year – but here is the performance from the 24/seven dance convention in Santa Clara last week. It is the story of Tamika and I as we walked through this last year together.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🙂

Celebrate With Us!

This letter was sent out to family & friends. I want to post it here just to share it with those who didn’t get it by email or in the mailbox 🙂

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to catch everyone up on what’s been going on with us over this last year. It has been one of the most challenging years of my life.

Many of you already know, but for those who don’t; Tamika (my wife) was diagnosed with aggressive stage-3 breast cancer in April 2014. After 12 months of fighting (chemo, surgery, follow up treatments) her recent scans are clear and she is cancer free!!! Read More
